Nordmann's Fir (Abies nordmanniana)
The Nordmann fir has long been the preferred Christmas tree in Europe, but now it is being raised and sold in the United States. At first glance it resembles a Noble fir, but a closer look shows the Nordmann has a character of its own. Its dark green needles are slightly longer than those of the Noble fir and the branches are spaced a little farther apart allowing more ornaments to be hung. The Nordmann fir has the best needle retention of all the Christmas trees and has little noticeable scent which is an appeal to buyers with allergies. Nordmann fir are never sprayed with pesticides because insects are not attracted to them. They hold up well during shipping and handling.
